Who or What is God?
A Catholic’s answer to one of the oldest questions of mankind.
Every spiritual thought leader of almost every religious or spiritual group has an understanding of “God” (or, at least, a god or spiritual entity). It is this understanding that governs how they teach the members of the religion to pray, meditate, live, and love.
In other words, the entity you believe in determines how you live your life.
We will look at a few false beliefs about God before we look at the true God.
1. False: “God doesn’t exist.”
A person who believes there is no God will live his life in a type of spiritual anarchism, or, at the very least, non-conformism. For this person, Divine Law has no significance or bearing in his life.
Scripture goes into detail in many verses about this kind of person. But I can summarize all those verses using just one verse from sacred scripture:
“The fool says in his heart,
‘There is no God.’
They are corrupt; their acts are vile.
There is no one who does good.”
– Psalm 14:1
